Building a 7 Figure Personal Training Studio

I went from being a broke to owning a successful 7 figure personal training studio with a world-class team and culture. I started as a personal trainer earning $16.75/hour at a gym, my journey in training and fitness has been anything but easy, but every challenge taught me valuable lessons that fueled my growth.

I began my career in the gym, part of an independent business owner program, which introduced me to essential business skills. I poured my heart into creating an online program, The Alpha Body, complete with programming, nutrition plans, power calls, and even an e-book, The Truth About Supplements. I also launched a podcast, The MaximusMark, yet despite these efforts, the income was minimal.

Failure became a familiar companion, but I learned it’s okay to fail—it’s through these setbacks that we grow. My breakthrough came when I trained a successful boxer, which garnered recognition and attracted more clients. Ironically, my success led to being kicked out of the gym. This setback became a blessing in disguise, pushing me to open my own studio.

Mentorship and Key Lessons in Personal Training

A pivotal moment in my journey was meeting a mentor who emphasized the importance of constant improvement and learning from others. These lessons shaped the way I approached training and fitness.

I realized that mastering your craft, sales, build a marketing machine, learn to train and delegate team members, and be conscious about creating a brand. Be willing to say no to things that don’t align with your values and goals. Create a culture that supports your team and clients.

There are four ways to sell Personal Training:

  1. By the session
  2. By the pack
  3. By the program
  4. By the experience

At my studio, Enterprise Fitness, we don’t just sell personal training; we offer experiences. We’ve built a culture that supports both our team and clients. We carefully screen potential team members, ensuring they fit our culture and values, and employ them on a casual basis to manage the variability of client bookings. Protecting my time and prioritizing my schedule helps me balance work and life.
